Due to a recent extension, we are delighted to now have four different rooms to offer for your children. The Retreat (3-15 months), Explorers (14 months – 28 months), Adventurers (24 months – 40 months) and our Inventors (36 months – 60 months).

The nursery is registered with Ofsted for children from 0 – 5 years.  Our experienced and qualified staff aim to create an environment in which the children feel empowered, curious and self-confident.  Our most recent Ofsted inspection was in November 2017, achieving a Good rating.  We were praised for how confident our children are and their happy, positive demeanour whilst learning at our nursery.

Discovery Nursery opened in July 2013,  close to Exeter city centre and the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital.  We are perfect for the commuting parent, located Heavitree Road, one of Exeter’s main road links between the city and the M5.  We pride ourselves on being an oasis of calm and curiosity in the heart of a city.

At Discovery, we can care for up to 95 children between 3 months to 5 years in a spacious building with rooms which have lovely, traditional features.   There is plenty of space for our little ones to learn, explore and discover.   We are especially proud of our large outdoor play space, complete with its own secret garden and forest school area.  We love taking our children’s learning outside, whenever possible, with our wellies always at the ready!

We open all year around except for bank holidays and a week between Christmas and the New Year. We open at 7.30am and close at 6.00pm, Monday to Friday.

Our staff recruitment is based on the qualifications, experience, enthusiasm and care the individuals show for children. We follow safer recruitment practices and all staff are checked through the DBS system prior to working in the setting. We are registered with Ofsted.

Opening Times and Fees

Here at Discovery Nursery in Exeter, we know that life is busy, and modern working patterns mean that your day can start early or finish late.

That’s why we strive to be the nursery of choice for Exeter parents. We’re open five days a week between 7.30am and 6pm, all year-round (excluding bank holidays and the week between Christmas and New Year).

Here’s a helpful guide to our daily timetable:

Full Day 7.30am – 6pm
Morning  Session 7.30am – 1pm
Afternoon Session 1 – 6pm
Extended Funding Session Timings 8.30am – 1.05pm / 1.05pm – 5.40pm
Breakfast Club 7.30 – 8.30am
Extended Breakfast Club  (Available to Universal and 2 Year Old funding streams – additional charge) 7.30 – 9.20am
Late Club 5.40 – 6pm

We offer places for both Universal (15 hours/week, term-time only) and Extended (30 hours/week, term-time only) Early Years childcare funding options for children aged between 3 and 5 years old.

We appreciate that term-time only funding (33 weeks) does not work for many parents/carers, so we’re pleased to offer funded places stretched out over 50 weeks. This means that you would be entitled to fewer funded hours per week, but this would cover more of the year:

• 15 hours per week over 33 weeks becomes 11 hours stretched over 50 weeks
30 hours per week over 33 weeks becomes 22.8 hours stretched over 50 weeks

Universal childcare funding begins from the start of the academic term after your child’s third birthday.

Contact us to determine your eligibility for 30 hours funded childcare, or follow this link: https://www.gov.uk/30-hours-free-childcare

We also offer funded places to 2 year olds. Check your eligibility here.
